Online Casino Premises Raided
22 Mar 2006
An online casino boss’s private home was the scene of a raid by Costa Rican police last week. Calvin Ayre, owner and founder of online casino firm Bodog, had his multimillion-dollar mansion in San Jose searched last weekend by police in an attempt to prove the online casino boss was running illegal poker activities from his residence.
During the raid, police confiscated several computers. Ayre told media that the raid was all “a dreadful misunderstanding,” claiming that local tabloids had falsely reported gambling activities taking place at the online casino owner’s personal home. Ayre blamed the misunderstanding on his latest television venture. A television crew had been based at the online casino boss’s home to film party scenes for an upcoming show on poker. The online casino firm had also released a statement that filming for “Calvin Ayre’s Wild Card Poker Tournament” had just completed.
Bodog has become increasingly popular with casino players, who use the site to wager on sports and online casino poker. Calvin Ayre has joined the ranks of online casino entrepreneurs worth millions, despite the continuing ambiguities that surround the legalities of online casino gaming.
